Natural Male Aphrodisiacs

Most natural male aphrodisiacs are to be found in the foods we eat, many of the foods being quite common. We tend to forget that, given the emphasis placed on products designed to, or at least claiming to, provide positive results whenever the “time is right”. Natural male aphrodisiacs can't make that claim as their effects are generally more permanent and long lasting. They are also by and large, much safer.

Grocery Shopping For Male Aphrodisiacs - When ingesting foods containing a natural aphrodisiac, there are instances when a little planning ahead may be in order. Onions and garlic are two of the better known aphrodisiacs, at least from an historical perspective, but are probably far more effective if both partners partake of the food before getting romantic. Some herbs like ginkgo balboa, ginseng and kava are considered powerful male aphrodisiacs but all three have potential side effects, or should not be used by persons having certain medical conditions. The same might be said for pills found on the marketplace designed to improve male enhancement. Long term side effects can sometimes outweigh short term pleasures.

In centuries past, many foods were considered to be male aphrodisiacs based on their appearance, based on folklore, or both. Today there is usually scientific evidence to back up claims that a particular food item contains sexually enhancing powers. Vitamins, especially vitamin E are helpful to males as are the B complex vitamins. Potassium is known to enhance sexual powers. Consequently bananas, rich in potassium, vitamin E and the complex B vitamins, are a food which can be considered to be an aphrodisiac. Some of members of the nut family, especially almonds, pistachio nuts, and hazelnuts fit into the sexual prowess enhancing category, and oysters have long be considered an aphrodisiac.

Male aphrodisiacs didn't just suddenly appear in the form of TV commercials, but have been known and seriously studied in various cultures since ancient times. The Aztecs considered the avocado to be an aphrodisiac of the highest order, and also held chocolate at the same level of esteem. The powers of the banana can be traced back to ancient Islam, as can the purported powers of cilantro seed, also known as coriander.

Honey Mead, Going Overboard? - The ancient Egyptians considered honey to be an aphrodisiac, as well as honey mead. Of course mead is a very potent drink, and like wine an alcohol can be a powerful stimulant up to a point, after which it starts working in the opposite direction. Sometimes just the smell of food or an herb can incite passion, the musky scent of truffles and the sweet scent of vanilla being cases in point. The smell of a fine wine combined with the smell of chocolate can be very enticing, which is why chocolate and wine are much preferred by men over flowers when given as gifts to a woman.

Normally when a particular food item has a solid history for being an aphrodisiac, there's a scientific reason, and that reason is usually the presence of certain vitamins or minerals. We've mentioned potassium, and why potassium makes bananas a rather potent aphrodisiac. Another mineral is zinc, which places pine nuts high on the list of male aphrodisiacs.

An Aphrodisiac Meal - When you think about it, it shouldn't be all that difficult to prepare a meal based primarily on aphrodisiacs. The meal would consist of certain fresh vegetables and fruit, but oysters could always be added, though the claim that the oyster is an aphrodisiac may be based more on folklore than on truth. Just don't forget the wine, and have something with a little chocolate in it for dessert.
